yeast infection vs bv

Here's why your vagina is itchy like crazy during periods

Lingering old blood: One thing that causes you to itch is the lingering older blood leading up to the irritation. So if you are at the end of your cycle you are likely to itch more. Here are 5 common causes of an itchy vagina.

High levels of inflammation: Another, reason why it itches like crazy is because of all the inflammation. You tend to get higher levels of inflammation in your entire body when you are on your periods so you tend to itch more.

Yeast infection : It is also possible that you developed a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis which is an overgrowth of yeast or bacteria. If you feel that your itchiness is due to a bacterial infection check with your doctor. Your doctor can take cultures even when you are on your period. If the result is positive, the doctor can prescribe you some medication to get rid of the problem. If the result is negative, you can look for some over the counter cream to get some relief from itching.
