How to get a handle on prescription medications

Dear Savvy Senior,

I'm concerned that my 80-year-old mother is taking too many medications. She currently takes 10 different drugs prescribed by three different doctors, which I think is causing her some problems. She also struggles to keep up with all the drug costs. Any suggestions?

Concerned Daughter

Dear Concerned,

There's no doubt that older Americans are taking more prescription medications than ever before.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, around 40 percent of seniors, age 65 and older, take five or more medications. And the more drugs a person takes, the higher their risk for medication problems, and the more likely they are to take something they don't need.

Where do you keep your prescription medicine in the house? In the bathroom mirror compartments? In the kitchen

I just moved into an apartment that I share with one other person and I was just wondering where one puts his or her prescription medicine. I see a lot of people put medicine behind their bathroom mirrors but is that really practical (assuming one does

I should sum this up with "They were from China!" but I won't...I'm going to play both sides of the fence here

1) The FDA regulates far fewer drugs, and take a look at their track record....
A large part of the problem

i take a multi and a calcium citrate supplement packaged for target stores. i take a brand name glo/chron/ msm supplement for arthritis. never had any issues. the supplement market has a lot of appeal. there are many homeopathic products with proven benefits.

in all honesty I certainly would NOT want the FDA with their record of 109k deaths a year from their record of being little more than an outlet for big pharma.
I wonder where all your critical thinkers are, ripping this opinion piece as you did
