Commentary: Reclaiming control over diabetes, one device at a time

Unfortunately, failure to do so could lead to an increased lifetime exposure to and a higher risk of diabetes-related complications: Blindness, amputations, kidney failure, stroke and heart attack.

Effective management of diabetes is a pressing issue, but more of the same would lead to naught. A fresh perspective leveraging the right tools to empower people living with diabetes in their decision-making is needed.

The war on diabetes may be waged on a national level, but on a personal and clinical level, we need to deploy smart solutions that can empower people living with diabetes to make an informed decision about their dietary and lifestyle choices. It is only through the use of smart technologies are they given a chance to fight back.

THE DAILY STRUGGLE

Take the example of a diabetic patient I see, John*, who is in his twenties. John has had Type 1 diabetes since he was 13 and has lived with the condition for over a decade.

Pregnancy Gestational Diabetes 3 hour test question..why draw blood, instead of using a glucose meter?

Does anyone know why they have to draw your blood, and why they don't just use a glucose meter( the thing diabetics useto check their blood sugar levels)? Or is that an option and I don't know about it? I am 28 weeks pregnant and I just went last week

I had to go through the exact same thing at the exact same point in my pregnancy. I didn't pass the first GGT either. I asked them why they couldn't use a glucometer and they said when they send the blood out it gets a more accurate reading. I know

Not nice when the person takes blood & it hurts & bruises! Let them know what happened last time & ask for them to be really careful.

The reason they use a blood test is because it is much more accurate than the finger prick.

hi, when i start to get hungry, my calf muscles & arm muslces start to ache.....?

i thought it was cause my blood sugar was too low, but it's not (i have a blood glucose meter) i tested it and my blood sugar is in the 120s-140's.....this only happens when im hungry, what do you think it is? anyone else have these symptoms?? thanks

well this happens to me when im stressed, or when im just overly tired, but i just dont know it. and its normal for these symptoms to occur, because when your hungry, you have less energy. idk if this is the case for everybody, but thats the case for
