Vitamin K update

How to fit it in. Typical intakes of vitamin K in the U.S. meet recommended levels (120 micrograms per day for men age 19 and older, and 90 mcg for women). Certain medications can interact with vitamin K. Long-term use of antibiotics can kill beneficial bacteria that make vitamin K in the gut. The weight loss drugs Orlistat or Olestra, and the cholesterol-lowering bile acid sequestrants Choletryamine, Colestipol and Colsevelam, can block fat absorption, creating a potential for vitamin K deficiency since it is fat-soluble. Individuals taking the blood thinners Warfarin or Coumadin should make sure vitamin K intake stays consistent, as too much can block the effects of blood thinners. Aside from medications, lack of absorption can be caused by hemodialysis or certain conditions, such as gallbladder, biliary, liver, celiac and Crohn's disease. In these instances, supplementation may be recommended by your health care provider.

Warfin question and thickness of blood.?

I am on warfin for a titaniam heart valve. I've been doing ok for 2 years. Suddenly all I can do is sleep and sometimes I get so dizzy I can't get off the bed. They told me at the hospital my blood was too thick and that was what was causing my problem,

I've been on warfarin for 34 years and really never had any problems to speak of. There are other vitamins that can affect your protime too. Vitamin E in particular. I'd drop the vitamin for the time being until your doctor okays it. Good luck to you

As a complete layman (read: I know very very little about warfarin) I would have to guess that something in the multivitamin is counteracting the warfarin, reducing its blood-thinning ability.

Did they tell you your INR? I find it hard to believe that they would discharge you with a prosthetic heart valve if you have a subtherapeutic INR (which is how we measure how well the coumadin is working, it should be above 2 or 2.5 - depending on the

You aren't fat but you are a little heavy set. It's nothing really bad though

As for your diet...
I would say don't stick to that special K diet thing. Just work on eating better. Have salads, meat with no bread, no fried foods,
