7 ways to get in shape by Valentine's Day! If you aren't getting bigger and you aren't getting stronger, then you miss to eat more food. Still not growing? Eat more food! You should be taking things to augment nutritional gaps such as multivitamins, fish oil, and protein.

Surviving the Holiday Blues: Supplements

Several experts (including Dr. Daniel Amen (neuro sciences), and Dr Oz (cardiovascular surgeon and pop occurrence) say that every person should be taking a daily multivitamin and fish oil. My psychologist (Dr. Jonathan Morley of Chestnut Hill) agrees.

Here's what you need to know about “ingestible skincare” (aka vitamins)

, Recommends testing for deficiencies and then supplementing with specific vitamins as needed.

She points to vitamin A and biotin—the active ingredients in popular Kardashian-advertised Sugar Bear Hair vitamins—as cautionary examples. Katta notes that while vitamin A deficiencies can cause hair loss , an excess of it can too. Moreover, while studies have shown that biotin may improve weak nails , its use may interfere with certain lab tests, including those for heart attacks and thyroid function .

What’s more, vitamins and supplements are not regulated in the way that drugs are, which means that manufacturers do not have to prove their safety OR effectiveness to the FDA before they start selling it. This means there are rarely standardized research studies to prove that products are actually delivered in high enough concentrations to work, which leads to couched claims and self-reported clinical trials that have no bearing on effectiveness.

“Bottom line: be very cautious, because much of what you read on a bottle may just be marketing…unless you have research studies that back up those claims, you need to consider them marketing,” Katta says.

Much advertising for vitamins (and nutritional supplements) is profit based. Be cautious listening to someone who benefits each time they sell you something.

You can take as many water soluble vitamins (C and mostB vitamins) as your stomach

Is it safe to take a multivitamin, fish oil capsules, echinacea, ginseng, and ginkgo biloba?

I can't see why it wouldn't be, but it seems like a lot. Also, if theres any other brain enhancing stuff you can reccomend I'd be interested.

To Animal Lover: firstly, other than the multivitamin, those are not vitamins. They're herbs and roots and one oil obtained from an animal. Secondly, you don't think vitamins have been around long enough to know? Uhhhh.........how do you suppose human

Sounds good as they're all different supplements.
Prob not much else you should take though, just eat healthy also

i don't think vitamins have been around long enough for them to know the effect of taking many different things. I would think your liver and kidneys may be affected by taking large amounts of certain things, not to mention your stomach.
