The Northeast Colorado Health Department and the city of Sterling Parks, Library and Recreation Department teamed up in July to challenge local businesses and their employees to get active.

Participants in the "Gettin' Down to Business" challenge were invited to complete the equivalent of a half-Ironman triathlon — 43 laps of swimming, 56 miles of biking and 13.1 miles of walking or running — from July 1 to July 31. They were also given the option of replacing one of the activities with calisthenics, fitness classes or other activities.

Overall, there were 111 participants in the challenge. Those who weighed in at the start of the month and weighed out at the end lost a net total of 129.6 pounds.

Winners were announced at a lunch barbecue at Pioneer Park on Aug. 4.

Thinning the Herd from the Bank of Colorado went the furthest distance. Team members were Julie Burton, Mendi Robirds, Jana Thomas, Jodie DiOrio, and Cassie Thompson.
